The Week 636 Pacific St. Came Down

A weekly roundup of must-read stories from our favorite Brooklyn blogs.

If there's one thing Brooklyn has a lot of, it's writers. And in this day and age, a lot of writers inevitably means a lot of blogs. So many wonderful things are written about this borough and our neighborhood specifically that it's tough to read it all. That's why, every week, we'll compile a few stories from Brooklyn's best blogs that we think you should take a look at.

Without fail, the beautiful architecture of Prospect Heights has found its way onto the pages of Browstoner. On Tuesday, 240 prospect Place, Apt. 3, was featured as the "Co-op of the Day." According to the popular Brooklyn real estate site, the apartment has a "nice prewar vibe combined with a modernized, albeit not sexy, kitchen."

The commenters, however, seem to think the asking price of $725,000 is a bit steep.

The Vanderbilt, one of the many new eateries that has popped up along Vanderbilt  Avenue in the last couple of years, was featured in Time Out New York's "best potpies" list. Time Out writes that the Vanderbilt's secret to making such a delicious potpie is "funky Parmesan and duck fat in the dough, and onions, rosemary and root vegetables enriching the filling."

If you're more of the shellfish type, stop by Groupon and buy an $18 certificate that gets you $40 worth of oysters and drinks at Cornelius, located at 565 Vanderbilt Ave.

According to Nets Daily, a blog that covers the New Jersey Nets, the team's owner Mikhail Prokhorov stopped by Prospect Heights on Saturday to watch the demolition of 636 Pacific St., the last building standing in the footprint of the Barclays Center.

However, Prokhorov, who was also featured in the New York Times Magazine this past weekend, didn't stay long. Afterwards, he sped off to Peter Luger's for a steak.

Tracy Collins, who has captured much of the neighborhood in a series of beautiful time-lapse videos, was on hand Saturday to film the demolition of 636 Pacific St.
