6 Ways To Spend St. Patrick's Day in Brooklyn

Perennial Brooklyn Irish favorite PJ Hanley's may be closed, but that shouldn't prevent you from shouting slàinte somewhere this St. Patrick's Day. We've gathered the best of the borough's events taking place Sunday, March 17, and there's a wee something for every lad and lass.

...Something Sweet

Carroll Gardens' cutest do-gooders, the Cookie Kids—an ambitious crew of philanthropical 4th graders from PS 58—will be at the corner of Smith and President Streets selling green goodies in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, with proceeds going toward local charities. In the past, donations have benefitted the Red Hook Initiative and Hurricane Sandy victims. This weekend's treats will include Rainbow Cupcakes, Green Krispie Treats, Macaroons, Shamrock Whoopie Pies and even biscuits for the four-legged set!

...Something Traditional

Love a parade? Who needs Manhattan! The 38th Annual Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the borough's best events of the year, featuring Irish step dancers, military bands and bagpipes galore. ...Something Educational

Forget leprechauns. The Eminent Irish of Green-Wood walking tour at Green-Wood Cemetery takes guests on a fact-filled journey past the graves of notable Irish residents, including copper magnate Marcus Daly, India Ink manufacturer and American patriot Charles Higgins and one-armed Civil War General Thomas Sweeney. ...Something Salacious 

The Bell House gets the award for most titillating event this year, featuring the Wassabassco St. Patrick’s Day for Sinners: an all-redhead burlesque show. "No green beer! No Pogues cover bands! No bridge & tunnel fake-Irish! Just naked redheads, good beer & whiskey, and awesome people like you!" reads the site description. Gowanus, you never cease to amaze us. 149 7th Street. Doors at 7:30pm. Tickets $20 (but redheads get in free).

...Something Musical

Prospect Heights hotspot The Waystation will be hosting three different Celtic-inspired bands from 7 p.m. onward: Painless Parker (country-punk), The Waysties (Irish-ified covers), and Paul Ryan and Mike Lebess (expats who play guitar the way they do back in the old country). 683 Washington Avenue. ...Something Debaucherous

If St. Patrick's Day doesn't feel right without a pub crawl, check out the Green Kegs & Hammered tour de suds taking place throughout Williamsburg.
