4. You need to get the kids out of the house. It's a beautiful day -- perfect for the . You can catch the Sea Lion Feeding at 2 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. And, because it's Columbus Day, the (usually closed on Monday) is open with events going on all day. See kids events for the entire week on our .

5. You need to know if your train is running, and if you have to move your car. Alternate side parking is suspended today for Columbus Day, as well as on Thursday and Friday for Succot, according to the NYCDOT. There are no planned subway service changes affecting Prospect Heights stations, but beginning at 12:15 a.m., there are a ton, according to the MTA. The Q trains are running every 30 minutes between Atlantic Avenue and Stillwell Avenue. Brooklyn-bound trains will drop you at Pacific and you will have to walk to Atlantic and wait for the next leg (the reverse Manhattan-bound). You're probably better off walking from Atlantic or switching to the No. 2, because trust me, doing this switch is a pain. The No. 3 train is not running and all No. 2 trains board at the Manhattan-bound platform. The No. 4 trains run express in both directions between Atlantic Ave. and Utica Ave., with free shuttle buses providing service to Nostrand Ave. and Kingston Ave., according to the MTA
