5 Things You Need to Know: Parades, Sea Lions and More

What you need to know to start your Monday off right.

Happy Labor Day! If you’re not going to spend your holiday grilling burgers and laying on a blanket in Prospect Park, here are a few other ideas.

1. You need to let loose and party. Summer is winding down, but you can still enjoy one last hurrah with the 44th Annual West Indian Parade Carnival, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Eastern Parkway and Schenectady Ave to Flatbush Ave Ext.

2. OK, you probably also need a break from the crowds. Crow Hill Collective will be hosting a day-long event at 617 St. Johns Place, from noon to midnight. Entry is $15 and DJ’s will be spinning reggae, hip-hop and soul long into the evening.

3. You need to explore herbal healing. The Commons, 388 Atlantic Avenue, will host , a free workshop about herbal medicine; 5 p.m.

4. You need to hang out with some sea lions. Grab the kids and head to Prospect Park Zoo to check out the daily sea lion feeding. The sea lions catch fish in mid-air and perform tricks, at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Free with zoo admission. Or check out our .

5. You need to know how to get around. The 2/3 Eastern Parkway station will be closed between 1:30-6 p.m., due to the parade. 4 trains will run locally in Brooklyn, and skip Eastern Parkway. Alternate side parking is suspended for the Labor Day holiday.
