5 Things: Spirituals at Brooklyn Public Library and Rufus Wainwright at BAM

Prospect Heights-area subway, alternate side and event highlights you won't want to miss.

 

1. You need music. Head to the  for , where the Brooklyn Philharmonic and poet Tyehimba Jess performs a concert that explores the legacy between African-American music and the symphonic tradition. 10 Grand Army Plaza, 7 p.m. Free. 

2. You need Rufus Wainwright. In that case, head the other way to the  where Grammy nominated singer/songwriter  are performing. 30 Lafayette Ave., 8 p.m. Free.

3. You need to get the kids out of the house. There are a ton of kids events on Wednesdays and now, added to the list is Music & Movement & Literacy, Oh My!, a mixed-aged where kids participate in singing, dancing, playing instruments and a craft project as they enhance a variety of developmental abilities and literacy skills.  Concerning Learning, 213 Eastern Parkway, downstairs, between Washington and Classon, 10-11 a.m., ages 2-5, $10 (note, price will go up in June). 4. You need to know if your train is running ... It is! There are no planned service changes affecting Prospect Heights stations. However you should note that between midnight and 5 a.m. all week, Manhattan-bound Q trains are running through the tunnel, according to the MTA, so leave extra time.

5. ... And if you have to move your car. Not that there's any Wednesday street cleaning in Prospect Heights, but alternate side won't be suspended again until Thursday, May 17 for Solemnity of the Ascension, according to the NYCDOT.
