5 Things: Bulb Planting and Benefit Concert for PS9, Weekend Subway Changes, Cookbook Signing, More

Prospect Heights-area information and events you won't want to miss.

1. You need to support P.S. 9. There are two ways to do it today: you can at at 1:30 p.m. Or you can go to a  tonight at 6 p.m. $35.

2. You need some new recipes for your Farmer's Market haul. Prospect Heights resident and New York Times food columnist (and my sister) Melissa Clark is having a today at the Grand Army Plaza GreenMarket. She'll also be giving out samples of her poached pears (which are very good, I've had them). 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Free.

3. You need to get the kids out of the house. The New York Transit Museum has a particularly interesting workshop this weekend: Electricity Live! After an interactive tour of their newest ElectriCity: Powering New York’s Rails exhibition, kids will use everyday materials and real subway parts to demonstrate the science and magic of electricity. New York Transit Museum, Corner of Boerum Pl & Schermerhorn St, 1:30 p.m., ages 4+, Free with museum admission (Adults $7, Children 2–17, $5). Or, see our .

4. You need to know if your train is running ... All weekend there are no No. 2 trains between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Take the No. 5 or R trains to nearby stations instead. Also over the weekend, Manhattan-bound No. 4 and 5 trains skip Eastern Parkway, Grand Army Plaza and Bergen Street, according to the MTA.

5. ... And if you have to move your car. Today, of course, you're fine, but the next alternate side suspension isn't until Thanksgiving, on Nov 25, according to the NYCDOT, so you'll be moving your car for awhile.
