5 Things: What You Need to Know Today, Post-Sandy

Details on P.S. 9's silent auction Saturday, subway info, what cultural institutions are now open and some events to entertain the kids.

 

1. P.S. 9 is going ahead with its Silent Auction on Saturday night. Even if you don't bid on anything, your $35 ticket will help the cause.

2. The Central Library, Prospect Park ZooBrooklyn Children's MuseumBrooklyn Museum,  and the Brooklyn Academy of Music are open today. Admission will be free today at the Botanic Garden.

3. NYC Schools will be closed again today. 

4. To entertain the kids, the Singalong with Mike Messer at Dean Street is still on for today at 10:30 a.m. and there is also an open Playspace at Cumbe for kids ages 12 months to 6-years-old.

5. Limited subway service continues today with "bus bridges" into Manhattan. Sadly, Prospect Heights' main lines, the 2, 3, Q and B are not running. You can pick up the train at Franklin or Atlantic Avenue. On the up side, buses are running and rides are free through Friday. See link for details. 

6. You must have at least three people in the car to drive into Manhattan again today between 6 a.m. and Midnight. Alternate side parking rules are suspended today but you will need to feed the meters.
