5 Things: No Q or B Train, No Alternate Side, February Break Kids Events, Storytelling, Open Jazz Jam, More

Prospect Heights-area subway, alternate side and event information you won't want to miss.

1. You need a good story. Head to Bar Sepia for Tell Me A Story: A Storytelling Series, 234 Underhill Avenue at Lincoln Place, 8 p.m. No cover.

2. You need to make music. If you're a jazz musician, head to Abigail Cafe & Wine Bar for their Open Jazz Jam at 7 p.m. If you're a singer (or even if you're not) then go to Karaoke Monday At Eve's Lounge at 8 p.m. No cover at either spot, but a one drink minimum at Abigail.

3. You need to get the kids out of the house. Because of February Break in the public schools, there are a ton of extra weekday events this week, including Botanic Garden Discovery Tours where kids can travel the world’s deserts and rain forests through hands-on activities. Meet at the Steinhardt Conservatory. Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 1000 Washington Ave., 1-3 p.m. (drop in). This program is free, as is garden admission on winter weekdays. See our weekly kids calendar for more options.

4. You need to know if your train is running ...  Believe it or not, the MTA is treating today as a holiday (President's Day/Washington's Birthday) and extending the weekend track work through Tuesday 5 a.m. (See their justification here). This means there will be no Q trains north of the Prospect Park station today and, since trains are running on a Saturday schedule, no B trains either. You can get a shuttle bus at Seventh Avenue to go to Atlantic for the N/R to the city (or to Prospect Park to catch the Q southbound), according to the MTA.

5. ... And if you have to move your car. You don't! Alternate is suspend today for Washington's Birthday, according to the NYCDOT.
