5 Things: Celebrate Brooklyn! Music at Branded Saloon, Brooklyn Children's Museum Free Friday Nights, More

Prospect Heights-area information and events you won't want to miss.

1. You need Tonight it's 11-time Grammy-winner Shirley Caesar aka “The First Lady of Gospel” with as Vy Higginsen’s Gospel for Teens Choir, a prize-winning Harlem educational program/vocal group, opening. 7:30 p.m. (but get there way early) Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospet Park West. $3 suggested donation.

2. You need music. Start your weekend early with . Performers include Alyson Greenfield, The Bronx Singer, Marla Mase, The Cynds, Stephanie Lee & Mikel Campbel, and Gail/GRGR. , 603 Vanderbilt Ave. at Bergen. 4 p.m. Free.

3. You need to play chess. Head to the Central Library where there are separate groups for chess for  and for  beginning at 4 p.m.  Teens meet in the  Youth Wing's Teen Reading Room from 4-5 p.m. Aduts met in the Art/Music Divison on the 3rd Floor from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Free.

4. You need to get the kids out of the house. Head to  at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. This week, celebrate with Soul Understated. , 6:30 p.m. Free. Or, see our full list of 

5. You need to know if your train is running, and if you have to move your car. Today there are no service changes affecting Prospet Heights, but all weekend there will be no Manhattan-bound trains at Eastern Parkway, Grand Army Plaza and Bergen Street, according to the MTA. As for moving your car, alternate side is not suspended again until the Feast of the Assumption on Monday, August 15, according to the NYC DOT.
