What the DOT & the Parks Department did is ignore all quality of life and safety issues Read Morerelat ed to noise, pollution, the dangerous mixing of pedestrian and biking traffic and the narrowing of streets to satisfy the plan that THEY wanted. The utter disregard of the community's demands that they not narrow the roadway, that they put the bike lane on the main road instead of beside the pedestrian walk way on the median is a true indication of the level of arrogance in the Bloomberg administration. Both he and his Dept. Transportation Commissioner, Janette Sadik-Kahn cared not a whit for the quality of life in this city that resulted in creating hazardous conditions on both Eastern Parkway and on Prospect Park West. There was community input for both of these plans that was utterly and completely disregarded. The government is supposed to work for the people not decide what is "best" for the people. When the people are telling you what they want, there is an obligation by government to heed their wishes. This has not, and will never be the case in NYC, which is why it is becoming a city without a heart or a soul.
