The weekly lowdown on kids events in Prospect Heights, Prospect Park, North Park Slope, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, Prospect Lefferts Gardens and Crown Heights.

Monday, January 9

Sea Lion Feeding This daily event features the Prospect Park Zoo sea lions showing off their dives, catching fish mid-air and other tricks. Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue, 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., Free with zoo admission of $8 adults, $5 kids 3-12.

Tween Book Club A lively discussion for ages 9-12. The books for January areare "Jefferson's Sons: A Founding Father's Secret Children" by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley and "The Chronicles of Harris Burdick: Fourteen Amazing Authors Tell the Tales" by Chris Van Allsburg. Brooklyn Open Co-hosted by Urban Word, Brooklyn Open is a monthly open mic series for teen poets, spoken word artists, emcees, scholars and activists. The series is run by teens for teens, with youth DJs, youth hosts and a monthly featured poet. Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Dweck Center, 5-7 p.m. Free.

Toddler Time This weekly event allows toddlers 18 to 36 months to enjoy stories, rhymes and songs. Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, 10:15 a.m. or 11 a.m. Free.

Kids Sing-Along with Lloyd Miller Join the beloved Lloyed Miller, of Deedle Deedle Dees fame, Perch Cafe & Bar, 365 5th Ave (between 5th and 6th St), 10-10:30 a.m., $5 per family.

Wednesday, January 11

Babies and Books Stories and songs. Space is limited, pick up a ticket at the Children's Reference Desk on the morning of the program. Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, 10 or 10:30 a.m. (note: no 11 a.m.) 0-18 months. Free.

Shake It Up Baby! Come shake, rattle and roll with Annie. Session includes singing, dancing and stories (egg shakers provided). Dean Street, 755 Dean St (at the corner of Underhill Ave), 10:30 a.m., $5/family.

Sing-Along at Tea Lounge This weekly sing-along started up again this fall. 837 Union St. at Seventh Avenue. 10 a.m. $3 per caregiver.

Story Time with Mary Jo Play Kids, 676 Flatbush Ave., bet. Hawthorne and Winthrop. 10 a.m., $5/family.

Note: Prospect Park Children's Events will return in February. The park doesn't hold events in January because attendance is traditionally low, a spokesman said.

HIDE/SEEK Family-Artist Encounter Families will engage in an interactive exploration of a single artist and create a piece of art using some of the same materials or concepts. Today participants create a shadowbox in the style of Joseph Cornell. For kids 7+ with an adult companion. Brooklyn Museum, 12-1:30 p.m. Free with suggested admission of $12, kids under 12 are free. Space is limited, register in advance at youth.family@brooklynmuseum.org. 

Brooklyn Beanstalk Storytime Volunteers from the Brooklyn Beanstalk language immersion program read stories in French and Spanish. Ages 1 to 7 years. Space is limited. Tickets will be handed out beginning at 2 p.m. on the day of the program. Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Free.

Transit Museum 'Journey to the Past'  Journey back in time for a special tale with costumed storyteller Mabel Kline. She will recount her experiences as the subway’s first female conductor in an interactive, imaginary ride on an IRT Local. Performance is 30 minutes. Recommended for ages 5+. New York Transit Museum, Corner of Boerum Pl & Schermerhorn St, 1:30 p.m.,Free with museum admission (adults $7, kids 2-17 and seniors $5).

Arty Facts The Museum’s collections will inspire kids to imagine and create new worlds while exploring color and other elements of art in this ninety-minute class. Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Ages 4-7, $10 plus museum admission of $12 adults, $8 seniors and students, children under 12, free.

Sunday Stories for Kids Come hear your favorite children's authors read their latest books. Community Bookstore, 143 7th Ave, 11-1 p.m., Free.

Greenlight Baby Story Time Performers keep babies and toddlers under 3 years old entertained with stories, songs, and interactive performance.
