Robbers Attack Bicyclist With Golf Club

Biker taken to Methodist Hospital after early-morning mugging on Dean Street at Grand Avenue.

 

Police are looking for a group of men who attacked and robbed a 23-year-old as he was riding his bike on Dean Street.

The cyclist was going home at about 2:40 a.m. on June 29, when, at the intersection of Grand Avenue, a group of men surrounded the man on the street and then one of them swung a golf club, knocking the him to the ground, police said.

After the man fell, one of the thieves grabbed his backpack and took off. The bag held a cell phone, wallet and cash worth a total of $600, according to a police report.

A man driving by stopped and took the victim to Methodist Hospital, where he was treated for a shoulder injury and scrapes to the right side of his body, the report said.

In January, there was a similar attack a block away in which a man was bashed in the head with a metal cane  on Bergen Street.
