Prospect Heights is divided into two districts: the new 8th Congressional District, which includes the slice of Prospect Heights north of Dean Street (and also includes Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy); and the new 9th District, which is the rest of Prospect Heights (plus Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Ditmas Park, Park Slope and Windsor Terrace).

- The biggest race so far affecting Prospect Heights is a Democratic primary battle for  in Congress between Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries and Councilman Charles Barron. See a and a . Whomever makes it through the June 26 primary will go on to face Green Party candidate Colin Beavan and Republican Alan Bellone.

- Also competative is the battle to repace Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, D-Prospect Heights, in which district leaders, Walter Mosley and  go head to head in a September primary. The winner of that battle is likely to win the general election in November. 

- In addition, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, a third-term incumbent in the redrawn 9th District, who , is being , a Flatbush-born attorney and minister is challenging Clarke for the chance to represent the 9th Congressional District. See an . 

- And finally, state Sens. Velmanette Montgomery and Eric Adams, will be running for reelection this year, as will U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
