Is Crown Heights Becoming the New Williamsburg?

Homebuyers and artists flocking to the neighborhood for high-quality, low-priced brownstones and diverse people, the WSJ says.

In case you missed it over the weekend, the Wall Street Journal did a profile on Crown Heights, which they said is drawing homebuyers lured by the cheap, historic brownstones and by artists from Williamsburg, drawn by the affordable apartments and diverse population. 

It's been clear to Prospect and Crown Heights residents for awhile that Crown Heights is the new Brooklyn hot spot, but the WSJ piece is worth a read, because they give some interesting demographic and housing price information.

Did you know such as that while the vast majority of residents are of Carribean descent, the white population has increased by at least 20% in the neighborhood since 2000?

Or that the median asking price for homes in the neighborhood is $440,000, or $290 a square foot? (Compared to $333 in Bedford-Stuyvesant and $615 for Prospect Heights).

As we have been , the border between Prospect Heights and Crown Heights is Washington Avenue, not Franklin Avenue, despite what some realtors and new residents believe.

But of note to Prospect Heighters, the article discusses quite a few Washington Avenue restaurants including , , and , plus   on Franklin, although it left out r, and many other Classon and Franklin avenue favorites.

So is Crown Heights the new Brooklyn hot spot? We certainly think so.
