Four Homes Burglarized Over Holiday Weekend

Computers, electronics, credit cards, and even a basketball, were stolen from Prospect Heights homes

While many awaited the arrival of Santa Claus over the holiday weekend, an unfortunate handful of Prospect Heights residents were visited by cat burglars and other intruders between Dec. 24 and Dec. 26, according to police reports.

  • On Christmas Eve, a 24-year-old woman living on St. Marks Avenue approached the door to her apartment at 8:30 p.m. to find it and her window unlocked. Missing were her a computer, laptop and other equipment worth about $2,800.
  • A 33-year-old Franklin Avenue man returned home between Jefferson and Hancock Streets on Christmas Day at 8 p.m. to find several items missing from his shared apartment. There were no signs of forced entry. The victim's roommate, 36, who had been out of town since earlier in the month, was also targeted.
  • Items stolen included a laptop and other elctronics worth more than $1,000 as well as a gold necklace and watch. A number credit cards belonging to the vacationing roommate were used to make $1,000 worth of purchases at local MTA stations and one from Best Buy's website.
  • Nearby on St. John’s Place, between Underhill and Washington, a female resident returned home on Dec. 26 after being away for five days to find someone had broken in through the fire escape leading to her window. The intruder left with thousands of dollars worth of electronic devices, incuding a Microsoft Xbox 360, a Sony Playstation, Wii game console and an Apple laptop.
  • A 31-year-old Prospect Place woman, who had visited Chicago for the weekend arrived back, at her apartment on Dec. 26 to discover her apartment had also been broken into via the window. In this instance, the air conditioner had been removed to gain access to the apartment. Items stolen included a signed basketball and electronics worth more than $1,000, including a computer and a Nintendo Wii.
