Art Installation Adorns Atlantic Yards

Along Atlantic Avenue, passers-by can see the work of one of the winners of the Urban Canvas Design Competition.

Whether you s, most people can agree that in the neighborhood.

However, if you happen to walk past the chain-link fence that shields the site's  northern border, you won't see rusty metal, wafting dirt or idle cranes. You'll see an intricate and colorful geometric pattern stretching along Atlantic Avenue.

That pattern, titled "Color Mesh," is the work of Mauricio Lopez, an artist whose design was selected by the Urban Canvas Design Competition.

The competition, held by the New York City Departments of Buildings and Cultural Affairs, asked artists to submit artwork to cover construction fences, sidewalk sheds, supported scaffolds and other construction-related eye sores.

The four winning designs are now available for developers and property owners to install on the temporary protective structures located on city property.
